About the Project

An Australian  foundation

BDF, or the Ballroom Dancing Foundation, is a respected philanthropic organization in Victoria, Australia. Its main goal is to raise funds for the advancement of ballroom dancing. Initially formed during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, the foundation aimed to support professional dancers in need. Currently, BDF has broadened its focus to inspire a love for ballroom dancing among young people, including children and teenagers, whether as a hobby or a potential career path. To achieve this mission, the foundation actively introduces ballroom dancing in educational institutions and other platforms.

The Challenge

Youthful & professional

Given the organization's dual focus on attracting donors and enhancing accessibility of ballroom dancing among the youth, it is imperative that the logo embodies these distinct qualities. The logo design should effectively communicate the foundation's philanthropic mission to potential contributors while also capturing the essence of making ballroom dancing more attainable for younger generations. Striking a balance between these two objectives will ensure that the logo serves as a compelling representation of the organization's overarching goals, fostering a sense of inclusivity and appeal to both target audiences.

Reference

Client given

During the initial phase, the client shared two reference logos that not only served as sources of inspiration but also captured their admiration. In particular, they made it explicitly clear that they favored the font type utilized by the esteemed Bill & Melinda Foundation, expressing a specific desire to incorporate a similar aesthetic in their own logo design. Turning to the image component, the client expressed a strong inclination towards incorporating a silhouette representation of a dancing couple, drawing inspiration from the approach masterfully executed by the renowned Calgary Dance Foundation.

Colors

Pink & Black

The clients have already provided the designated colors for the logo, specifically pink and black, although they did not specify the desired saturation levels. Consequently, I have been granted the freedom to exercise my discretion in determining the optimal saturation for the colors. Considering that ballroom events predominantly take place during evening hours or in dimly lit environments, I have chosen a brighter shade of pink to ensure better visibility under such conditions. This decision was made with the intention of enhancing the logo's legibility and impact in darker settings.
